This is my Yaqui Deer Dancer shirt design. During ceremonies The deer dancer wears the head of a deer and embodies the very spirit of the deer. The deer is one of the most sacred animals of the yaqui culture. It is life giver of the people and this dance is a homage to it. The dance shows the life and death of the deer. The dancer actualy acts just like a deer in the dance. He uses two ghords in the dance. There are many symbols he uses for the dance. In this design i incorporated the Yaqui cross and the symbols of the flowers. Flowers (sewam) play a role as power of spiritual blessings and also a symbol that has been adopted from the virgin mary symbol of blood. Withing the cross are the symbols of the crescent moon and sun.
